PIANO LESSONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH DO PIANO LESSONS COST?

My current rate is $100 per hour. I offer piano lessons in Montréal from my home studio in Parc-Extension, as well as online piano lessons for students who prefer remote learning. Rates may vary for specialized instruction or unique scheduling needs.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD I BEGIN PIANO LESSONS?

Most students are ready to begin piano lessons around the age of 6, once they can comfortably recite the alphabet and count to 10. Cognitive readiness is also important — such as recognizing opposites like up vs. down, high vs. low, and loud vs. soft.

That said, it's never too late to start. I personally began piano at age 10. Any form of early musical exposure is beneficial and builds a strong foundation. If you're unsure whether your child is ready, feel free to reach out — I offer Montréal piano lessons for beginners of all ages.

WHY SHOULD I TAKE PIANO LESSONS?

Piano lessons offer a wide range of benefits beyond just learning to play music. I believe that learning piano is an investment in developing focus, discipline, creativity, and resilience — skills that are valuable in every area of life.

The ability to play music is a wonderful result, but my goal as a teacher is to guide students through the process of becoming a pianist. It’s this journey — not just the outcome — that makes piano lessons so impactful. Whether you're taking lessons in Montréal or online, the experience can truly shape your mindset and approach to challenges.

ARE PIANO LESSONS WORTH IT?

Yes — I truly believe piano lessons are always worth it. Many adults I meet say they wish they had learned to play when they were younger, or that someone had helped them develop focus and discipline early on.

Learning piano is more than just a musical skill — it’s a way to connect with yourself, express emotion, and build long-term habits that benefit other areas of life. Whether you're starting as a child or an adult, taking piano lessons in Montréal or online can be a deeply rewarding experience.

WHICH PIANO SHOULD I BUY?

Choosing the right piano depends on your goals, budget, and long-term plans. For beginners, a digital keyboard with 88 weighted keys is a great place to start — it’s affordable, space-saving, and perfect for getting started without a large investment. I usually recommend Yamaha models for reliability and feel.

If the student is considering a future in music, investing early in a quality acoustic piano (upright or grand) is ideal. Brands like Yamaha and Steinway are excellent choices for serious students. Even for those not pursuing music professionally, a well-maintained upright acoustic piano can offer great value and sound.

No matter the type, your piano should always have 88 keys and proper key weighting to support proper technique. If you're buying a piano in Montréal or online and need help choosing, feel free to reach out.
